Houston Zoo and the Houston Texans ? Tons of Family Fun

fun things houston

While there are certainly many things to do in Houston, two of the most popular include a visit to the Houston Zoo and taking in a Houston Texans game. Both activities are great for family outings and both are only minutes away from downtown.

The Houston Zoo is home to some of the most world's most exotic animals. Their emphasis on natural habitats has led to a number of upgrades within the zoo and you're sure to love the changes. The Houston Zoo is certain to be a family favorite, but you need to arrive early. It opens at 9 am, but parking fills up fast. Don't worry about waiting around with nothing to do before the gates open. There's Hermann Park to visit until you can enter inside.

Two of the most favorite exhibits at the Houston Zoo include the Kipp Aquarium and the Bird Exhibits. The Kipp Aquarium contains species of aquatic life from all over the world, including the Gulf of Mexico, Amazon River Basin, the Congo, and even the Great Barrier Reef. There is also an exhibit of white spotted jellyfish from the South Pacific and moon jellies, which have recently had 14 babies.

The Bird Exhibit is one of the largest in North America, and is home to over 250 species of birds. With three major exhibits, including the Fischer Bird Gardens, the Tropical Bird House, and the Birds of the World Bird Run, this is a must see for bird lovers. There are over 800 specimens for you to watch and you will certainly see some you haven't seen before here.

There's also a petting zoo, small water park, concession stands, and an animal themed carousel. This zoo is simply wonderful for visitors of all ages. It's also open seven day a week, making this a great weekend destination for school kids.

The Houston Texans, owned by Bob McNair, mark their sixth year with the 2010 season.

When at home, The Houston Texans play at Reliant Stadium, which is a beautiful and loud venue for an NFL game. Tailgating is almost as popular as the Houston Texans football, with many people arriving at the stadium as early as 8 am. If you don't feel like grilling out on game day, you can visit a number of different restaurants, including Papa John's Pizza and Prince's Burgers.

In closing, if you're planning to visit Houston, these are two of the most popular attractions you'll find in the city. The Houston Zoo and the Houston Texans are family favorites here, and with good reason. The zoo offers a chance for kids and adults of all ages to see a wide range of animals and a Houston Texans game will certainly make their father happy! You can actually spend an entire weekend here with these two activities and return home with everyone happy. When you're looking for something to do in Houston, the two above certainly must top the list.
